Abstract: Pila globosa Swainson is the most important aquatic animal which is found in the aquatic environment of Bangladesh. Pila globosa is entered in the hibernation due to passing of unfavorable environmental conditions. It is acted as a good bio-indicator and lives in nutrient rich shallow aquatic environments. Different types of phytoplankton, zooplankton, and aquatic plants are used as sources of food such as algae, diatoms, Vallisneria spiralis L., Commelina diffusa Burm. L., Enhydra flactuans Lour., and Pistia stratiotes L. etc. It is chosen hibernation period due to lack of sufficient food and environmental conditions. Pila globosa is found at Chalan beel area which is the best habitat in the context of Bangladesh. The main aim of the study was to determine hibernation period, edaphic criteria and habitat of Pila globosa of the Chalan beel area. The study revealed that hibernation period was started by end of October to November and the peak hibernation period was December and continue to February. Pila globosa is normally semi-dormant, but if food and water are available, some individuals may stay active during the hibernation period. The present study was conducted on the following parameters of soil and indicated that calcium, sodium, magnesium, copper, iron, manganese, and electrical conductivity were 44.08 mg/100 g, 0.38 mg/100 g, 5.07 mg/100 g, 4.18 µg/g, 111.48 µg/g, 20.77 µg/g etc. respectively. Water was nature in slight acidic and its pH value was 5.7. The maximum P. globosa was found in the shallow waterbodies, where the water level was 3 to 5 inches. It was also found in dense aquatic vegetation areas where food was easily collected and take shelter for laying eggs. Actually, it is identified as an ideal bio-indicator because of their ability to respond oxygen availability and nutrient enrichment. The findings of the study indicates that P. globosa is an essential component of the aquatic environment which plays a vital role in improving of sustainable aquatic ecosystem development. Furthermore research is needed to improve the habitats of P. globosa for protection and conservation in the whole aquatic bodies of Bangladesh.

Effect of Organic and Inorganic Fertilizer on Microbial Weight in Soil in Amaranthus spp. Cultivation

Abstract: Fertilizer plays a vital role in crop cultivation as a source of nutrients and affect the soil health. Microbes present in soil is a biological parameter of soil and important indicator of soil health. The plant’s nutrition depends not only on chemical availability but also on nutrient movement and plant characteristics. Nutrient addition causes a significant improvement, in comparison with the control plants. Soils are populated by plant roots, small animals, and many kinds of microbes: protozoa, algae, fungi, and bacteria. Each group is important to the soil’s life, but most of the biomass and biological activity is provided by plant roots fungi and bacteria. A field experiment was done at Rajshahi University in 2024 to investigate the effect of organic and inorganic fertilizer as source of nutrient and its effect on soil microbes. Amaranthus spp. was cultivated for the study. There were six treatments in this work. T0= control, T1= recommended dose of inorganic fertilizer (urea-850 g/deci, TSP-700g, MOP-200 g/deci and gypsum-300 g/deci) T2= 10% extra from recommended dose of inorganic fertilizer, T3=cowdung (10 ton/ha), T4 = vermicompost (2.5 ton/ha) and T5= trichocompost (2.5 ton/ha). The yield and growth values of Amaranthus spp. were higher in inorganic fertilizer treatment (T1) but soil microbial weight was lower in inorganic fertilizer and high in organic fertilizer. The recommended dose of inorganic fertilizer (T1) showed the highest values in crop yield but second highest was in trichocompost treatment (T5) in addition trichocompost treatment showed best result in case of microbial weight and bacteria culture. Trichocompost may be eco-friendly source of nutrient in amaranth cultivation.

In Vitro Evaluation of a Commercialized Fungicide on Radial Mycelial Growth of Aspergillus Species Associated with Groundnut Seeds Collected in Niger Republic

Abstract: Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) is one of the most important seed in Niger republic. It plays an essential role as a food and as a cash crop. Groundnut crops face the threat of numerous toxigenic fungi and this constitute a threat too in most least-developped sahelian countries. The present study is aimed to identify the mycoflora associated with groundnut seeds collected in Niger republic and to evaluate the efficacy of a fungicide with active substance mancozeb commercialized as Manga Plus by measuring the growth rate of the isolated mycoflora at different product concentrations. Seeds associated mycoflora i.e. Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus flavus were detected and isolated from seed samples. The in vitro experiment revealed a noticeable reduction in the growth of both Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus flavus as the concentration of the fungicide increased. Highest levels of radial growth inhibition in all the isolates were observed at a concentration of 10g/L (stock solution diluted ten (10) times) when compared to the control, maintaining a constant inhibition diameter of 2 mm after six days of inoculation. Overall, The Manga Plus fungus treatment was found to effectively reduce the development of radial mycelial growth of Aspergillus species. Further complementary studies should be conducted in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the tested fungicide on sporulation and germination of Aspergillus species associated with groundnut seeds.

Current Status of the Vegetation of the South-Western Tenir-too Reserves

Abstract: There are 10 nature reserves in Kyrgyzstan. In 2022, we conducted short-term monitoring of the vegetation cover of the Sary-Chelek Biosphere Reserve and the Besh-Aral State Reserve in Jalal-Abad oblast. The study area is located within the Western Tenir-Too. Species composition of vegetation of the study area is rich. In Jalal-Abad oblast out of 83 Red Data Book species of plants of Kyrgyzstan, 46 species can be found. During the vegetation survey, 7 Red Data Book species of plants of Kyrgyzstan were noted: Abiessemenovii; Amygdalus petunnikowii; Hedysarum chaitocarpum; Malus sieversii; Sorbus persica; Tulipa kaufmanniana and Tulipa anadroma. Sary-Chelek Biosphere Reserve was established in 1959. Besh-Aral State Reserve was established in 1979. The article presents the results of reconnaissance monitoring of vegetation of Besh-Aral State Reserve and Sary-Chelek Biosphere Reserve. According to preliminary data, the vegetation of the reserves is strongly influenced by the complete absence of anthropogenic impact. Monitoring of vegetation cover was carried out in the reserves as well as in the control areas. The vegetation of the control areas is exposed to the effects of grazing. As a result, the species diversity of plant communities decreases, the floral composition is depleted, and a significant part of plant species does not undergo a full vegetation cycle. Overall 13 geobotanical descriptions were compiled indicating the floral composition, abundance, height, phenological phase and vital condition of each plant species. To assess the abundance of plant species, ocular methods of direct accounting on the Drude model were used: cop2 – plants are abundant, cop1 – quite abundant, sp (sparsae) – rare, sol (solitaries) – isolated. The foliage projective cover occupied by projections of the aboveground parts of plants was taken into account for the plant community under study.
