Abstract: Biceps femoris is one of the muscles that forms the hamstring muscles group. Most of the athletes of all ages and sports and some active individuals, happen to have hamstring strain as most common injury in the group of active individuals. From the Chinese medical point of view, human body is not only formed of mechanic parts, but it’s an energetic collection of functions. We have the Life Energy within us, which is known as Qi. If a person has an injury, around the injured area the flow of energy becomes disrupted, causing pain and stagnation. The hamstring strain is at the level of muscles and tendons, with stagnation of the Qi and blood in channels and collaterals. The main purpose of doing this work is to show the positive results and effects of acupuncture. In the research are included 8 professional athletes in different sports, male and female, on age from 17 to 55, all with symptoms of biceps femoris pain. All patients were treated with acupuncture, indoor, on room temperature, with duration of treatments of 25-30 minutes. All of them needed only one treatment, expect for one female handball player, who needed 16 treatments to achieve positive result.

Abstract: The mechanics of the bones fracture is studied. The usefulness of simple physical consideration for studying of the bone fracture phenomenon is shown. Some quantitative estimations of potential energy of the bone elastic deformations as well as of impulsive forces for bone fracture, caused by sudden collision, by a fall, by road traffic accident etc., have been obtained. The dependences of the impulsive forces on the relative velocity of colliding bodies and of collision time have been established.

Abstract: The influence of individual acromial morphology on the pathogenesis of rotator cuff tears remains controversial. Since Neer first described the impingement syndrome, several authors have described the morphology of the acromion. In this study, we try to find a physiopathological correlation between the anatomical morphology of the acromion based on these two recently descripted parameters (Acromial index and Critical Shoulder Angle) and rotator cuff tears. Thirty-six consecutive conventional rotator cuff repair patients were retrospectively reviewed at our institution. Standardized, true anteroposterior radiographs with the arm in the neutral position were used to assess the acromion index, and the critical shoulder angle according. On standardized outlet views, the acromion morphology was classified according to Bigliani and Morrison. The acromion was flat in 2 patients (6%), curve (type 2) in eight patients, and hooked. The mean acromial index was 0.7. The mean critical shoulder angle was 37°. Acromial morphology plays without any doubt an important role in the pathogenesis impingement and its evolution to cuff rotator tears. The results of our study confirm the importance of a more comprehensive evaluation of the morphology of the acromion, which take in consideration not only acromial shape, but especially its lateral extension evaluated by the acromial index and the critical angle of the shoulder.

Abstract: Fecal calprotectin is considered a valid marker of intestinal inflammation and its high level in patients with HE may be explained by small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. This study aimed to assess the role of fecal calprotectin in diagnosis and follow up of patients with hepatic encephalopathy. Fifteen patients with uncomplicated liver cirrhosis, 30 patients with liver cirrhosis complicated by hepatic encephalopathy (HE) and 15 healthy subjects were enrolled. All participants were subjected to: clinical examination, laboratory investigations (CBC, liver function tests, kidney functions, HBs Ag and HCV Antibody), fecal calprotectin concentration, abdominal ultrasound. Severity of HE was assessed according to West–Haven criteria. Patients with HE was managed using metronidazole and rifaximin and fecal calprotectin concentrations were reassessed. The level of fecal calprotectin is significantly higher in patients with Child-Pugh class B (116±12 mg/kg) versus that in class A (66±15 mg/kg) (p<0.01). FC concentrations showed the lowest value in the cirrhotic group (66+15 mg/kg) followed by low grade HE (195+12mg/kg) and the highest value in the high grade HE group (489+23mg/kg) (p<0.01). A significant decrease in FC concentrations occurred in HE group after receiving treatment, reaching a level of 273+42.68 mg/kg versus 364+83.12 mg/kg before rifaximin. In conclusion: Fecal calprotectin can be used in diagnosis of HE. Significant high levels of fecal calprotectin in high grade HE patients and its reduction following effective treatment could consider fecal calprotectin as a follow up marker in association with clinical signs in patients with HE.

Abstract: Hypertension and its related disorders have a high mortality as well as morbidity and require strict adherence to medications in order to mitigate these consequences. Sexual dysfunction is prevalent among patients with hypertension and can either be attributed to the disease progression or as a result of antihypertensive medications. Most patients report the symptoms after initiation therapy and sometimes leads to a spurious association with antihypertensive drugs. However, most drugs in the antihypertensive classes have been associated with sexual dysfunction in both men and women. The most implicated drugs are diuretics, beta-blockers, and centrally acting agents while angiotensin modulating drugs have proved to improve upon erectile dysfunction. The older generation of antihypertensive medications tends to have a negative impact on sexual performance. Females experience sexual dysfunction associated with hypertension and its treatment, but this is grossly under-reported compared to their male counterparts. The incidence in females is higher compared to men and it is sometimes erroneously considered as part of the post-menopausal period rather than hypertension. The impact of medications on sexual dysfunction has somewhat produced contrasting results with some studies showing an association with medications and others proving otherwise. Clinicians need to be aware of the impact of sexual dysfunction among hypertensive patients in order to make an informed decision regarding dosage and choice of medications while keeping target blood pressure in mind.
